Dear Friends,

On Sunday, October 11th, FOR will hold our first Peace Banquet and Boat Cruise. Special guests will travel from Iraq, South Africa, the U.S. South and West Coasts, and elsewhere to be with us and to tell us about their amazing efforts across the globe for nonviolence, racial justice, and transformation -- we are excited to host this very special program.

We would love it if you could join us -- but whether or not you can be there, can you help a young person to attend?

We have an unique opportunity to welcome several young adults interested in peacemaking, social justice, and human rights to this historic event. Local participants in the Iraqi Student Project -- an inspiring initiative that was founded using the model of the Bosnian Student Project that FOR organized in the 1990s -- are among them. Others are students at universities and seminaries in New York City. But these students and emerging activists can't afford a ticket without your help.

Please consider purchasing a ticket for a young person to join us for the Peace on the River celebratory event. Tickets are $80. You can also purchase tickets over the phone: call 845-358-4601 ext. 29. (Group rates are also available: e-mail jmiller@forusa.org for more info.)

For more information about all the Peace Prize winners, please visit FOR's web site.

*** UPDATE on Sept. 28. 2009: Iraqi nonviolence leader Abdulsattar Younus of the La'Onf network has just been granted a visa by the U.S. Department of State! FOR is proud to announce that Mr. Younus is now cleared to travel from Erbil, Iraq, to New York City to receive the award on October 11th.***

We hope you will join us and these international peacemakers on October 11th on the majestic Hudson River!
