On Dec. 10, 1948, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, declaring in its first article, "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights."

Tomorrow, in recognition of the declaration, we celebrate international Human Rights Day.

We hope you will mark the occasion in an appropriate way in your community. And in this holiday season, we're asking you to take a moment to celebrate human rights by making a donation to the Fellowship of Reconciliation.

Here are some of the programs FOR is currently involved in that your donation will help support:

• A global day of listening to Afghans as they struggle against a continuing militarization of their country and night raids that uproot families and destroy communities.
• Nonviolent civil disobedience at the White House in protest of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
• Supporting Latin Americans opposing foreign military bases and militarization of their countries.
• Assisting the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó through the Colombia Peace Team.
• Advocating for an end to nuclear weapons and, in the short-term, passage of  New START to reduce nuclear arms.
