Friends,

Tears for Japan

Our thoughts and prayers are with those in Japan facing devastation and loss from the earthquake, tsunami, fires and nuclear power plant disasters.

The Fellowship of Reconciliation encourages you to consider donating to organizations active in the relief effort in Japan.

InterAction has compiled a list of many faith-based and other organizations working for humanitarian aid in Japan.

If you are in touch with FOR or International FOR members in Japan, please let us know about their work so that we may highlight it in a future message.

We invite you to consider three upcoming internships with Fellowship of Reconciliation partners in the fields of applied nonviolence and spiritual nonviolence.

The Metta Center for Nonviolence nonviolence immersion program is open to young adults ages 18 to 35, and located in Berkeley, CA, and includes an opportunity to work directly with FOR's office in Oakland. The priority deadline for this application is this Friday, March 18; applications submitted after this date will be accepted on a first-come basis.

The Community of Living Traditions at Stony Point Center internship in multifaith community organizing and nonviolence practice is open to young adults ages 18 to 28, and located in Stony Point, NY. The deadline for this application is April 1.

The Greensboro Justice Fund Fellowships at the Highlander Center in popular education and community organizing for social change is open to all adults over age 18, and located in New Market, TN. The deadline for this application is March 28.

No affiliation with FOR is required for these programs, so we encourage you to forward this information to anyone who might be interested.

Metta Mentors Nonviolence Immersion Program, Berkeley, CA

FOR partner Metta Center for Nonviolence is accepting applications for the Metta Mentors 2011 Nonviolence Immersion Program, running from early June to mid-August.

The program pairs students of nonviolence with local partner organizations for practical nonviolence and social justice work, while offering regular guidance from Metta, in order to help participants learn about the principles of nonviolence as a personal path, and apply those principles effectively in the service of building a nonviolent culture. Working with FOR's Task Force on Latin America and the Caribbean is one of several opportunities.

Priority applications are due this Friday, March 18. Later applications will be accepted on a first-come basis.

Farm the Land, Grow the Spirit internship, Stony Point, NY

FOR affiliate the Community of Living Traditions is accepting applications for the Farm the Land, Grow the Spirit program, running from late May through July.

This summer internship program for Muslim, Jewish and Christian young adults is designed for participants to build multifaith community together while working in the Stony Point Center's gardens, studying nonviolence and community organizing, exploring the roots of nonviolence within their faith traditions and deepening and sharing their spiritual practices.

Applications are due Friday, April 1.

Greensboro Justice Fund Fellowships at the Highlander Center, New Market, TN

The Highlander Research and Education Center is accepting applications for the Greensboro Justice Fund Fellowships, a one-year fellowship beginning with a workshop at the Highlander Center, May 31 to June 4.

Believing in the power of and strategic need for committed and skilled organizers, the Greensboro Justice Fund at its 30th anniversary announced the donation of its assets to the Beloved Community Center and to Highlander to train organizers in the name of GJF, which was created using an award from a civil case that found the city of Greensboro and members of the Ku Klux Klan complicit in the murders of civil rights activists.

Applications are due Monday, March 28. Applicants must be living and working in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or West Virginia.
