Dear Friends,
A chance to hear from the front lines of Colombia!
Using the wonderful Internet, the Fellowship of Reconciliation and Witness for Peace are offering U.S. audiences a chance to virtually invite guest speakers to your classrooms, church groups, unions and trivia teams. Hear from people who live the everyday of international solidarity, face the pressing realities affecting Colombian communities and experts on the ways U.S. policies and peoples affect Colombia. Not only will you be hearing from those who speak out of personal experience and are experts in their context, they’ll still actually be in their context while talking to you!
The following is a list of themes we are offering:
- The role of internationals in supporting Colombian nonviolent movements
- The role that international human rights structures play in the Colombian conflict
- History of Colombia: The conflict and social movements
- Anti-militarism in Colombia: The resistance of nonviolent youth to mandatory recruitment
- Mining in Colombia: Where Colombia's natural resources are going
- U.S./Colombia Free Trade Agreement
- The United States' drug war in Colombia
- Future role of multinationals in Colombia
- Systematic persecution of journalists in Colombia
- The plight and struggle of the Sugar Cane Cutters
- Colombia’s plan for land restitution
If we’ve piqued your interest, talk with your church groups, high schools, college classes, college clubs, labor unions and community groups to propose this opportunity to them. Then email us at bogota@forusa.org so we can arrange the details of the virtual meet-up.
In solidarity,
Isaac, Jon, and Liza of the FOR Bogotá Team |
