The Fellowship of Reconciliation announces Militarism Watch, a project to increase the capacity in social change movements and academia for research that serves activism and campaigns against US militarization at home and abroad.
Endorsed by Daniel Ellsberg, Medea Benjamin and other veteran activists, Militarism Watch responds to the need in our movements for skills to research the many aspects of U.S. militarism, to inform our work and choices, make us effective in advocacy and media outreach, and be aware of emerging issues. Militarism Watch produces handouts and brings together resources to help increase skills on research, with digital versions and links to these tools posted on the Militarism Watch web page, which we encourage you to browse. Activities to increase capacity include workshops and webinars or cyber-seminars conducted by project members.

How do you get information on U.S. arms sales to the Middle East, or U.S. military assistance in Latin America? Is it more important to find documents or talk with someone? Veteran researchers Adam Isacson of the Washington Office on Latin America and Lora Lumpe of the Open Society Institute will share their knowledge and experience, with lots of questions and discussion, facilitated by FOR's John Lindsay-Poland. Aspiring and experienced researchers are invited to be project members, to learn and share skills, and to share the results of their research into aspects of U.S. militarization, including military bases, arms sales, private contractors, recruitment, lack of GI rights, and more. Strategic Research on U.S. Militarism for Activist Campaigns is a five-week course on ways and sources for obtaining the information we need on U.S. military plans, activities, costs and impacts, to organize demilitarization campaigns. John Lindsay-Poland is the instructor in this course from January 13 to February 17, of the Activism School organized by the Alliance for Global Justice.
