Friends,

It's been four weeks since unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

Yet another attack on a young man of color, with little accountability for his white attacker, has surfaced the pervasive racism that too often bubbles beneath the surface of our society. Before Trayvon there was Troy Davis; before Troy there were Sean Bell, Oscar Grant, Amadou Diallo, Abner Louima and too many others.

The Fellowship of Reconciliation became known in the 1950s as a prophetic voice for civil rights. It's time we reinvigorated that work, to end the racial injustice that continues to saturate our country.

Join us in pursuing justice for Trayvon Martin and all black men and boys, tomorrow in Minneapolis:

One Million Hoodies March for Trayvon Martin
Thursday, March 29, 5:30 PM
University of Minnesota, Northrop Plaza
84 Church Street SE, Minneapolis, MN
RSVP on Facebook

Trayvon was attacked because he looked "suspicious" in his black hoodie to the neighborhood watch volunteer. We invite you to join us in a hoodie, or any jacket, to call for an end to racial profiling.

Saturday: African American Economic Solutions Summit

Sponsored by the Minnesota Neighborhoods Organizing for Change, the summit will look into the $4 billion spent annually in the Minnesota economy by the African American community. Through collaborative efforts of African American community members, organizers, authors, scholars, and business professionals, the summit will examine and develop solutions to:

  • insolvent relationships between the African American community and lending institutions locally and nationally,
  • advancing our own economic solutions based on the resources of our communities,
  • the lack of use of the economic cycle in our communities,
  • and the current beneficiaries of this ongoing pauperization of African Americans.

Keynote speakers will include Mahmoud ElKati, Dr. Rose Brewer, Sam Grant, and Professor Nekima Levy-Pounds.

African American Economic Solutions Summit
Saturday, March 31, 9:00 AM
North High School
1500 James Avenue N, Minneapolis, MN
Signup online or text SUMMIT to (612) 223-6361

We hope to see you at one of these racial justice events this week!
