Dear Friends,
Late next month, I will visit some of the most courageous communities in Colombia, and I would like you to join me. We'll be building solidarity across borders from July 21 to August 4, connecting with grassroots nonviolent resistance.
These are communities that have stood firm against the constant incursion of armed groups who aim to forcibly recruit their children and take over their lands. We break bread with the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó in the Abibe Mountains.
These are the organizations that opposed the 2009 agreement to allow the U.S. military to use at least seven bases in Colombia with almost no oversight -- and helped defeat the agreement in Colombian court. We will visit El Nilo, a peasant community next to the largest military base in Latin America, which is struggling for their right to farm.
These are young men and women who risk jail time in defense of their beliefs by refusing to participate in Colombia's military system. We will talk with them about how they use provocative, public, nonviolent actions to demand their right to a demilitarized life.
These are churches who organized themselves across denominational lines to challenge militarization at the Summit of the Americas in Cartagena in April, and who will join us in a gathering to advance the Colombian campaign to close military bases.
But these communities, organizations, activists, and churches are at risk, and this international visit provides needed visibility so they can continue their work.
Please join what will be an energizing visit to Colombia. Or pass this on to someone you know who is seeking to be inspired, and to inspire action themselves. We need just four more people to send your application by Wednesday, June 20, to make this positive delegation a reality.

Hoping to hear from you.
In solidarity,
Susana Pimiento Chamorro
