Dear Friends,
The Fellowship of Reconciliation is part of broad coalition of Mexican and US organizations that this week announced the Caravan for Peace with Justice and Dignity, which will traverse 5,600 miles and 25 cities, from San Diego and Washington, DC, between August 12 and September 12.
The Caravan, which was announced this week in Mexico City, will highlight US responsibility for gun smuggling, as well as for the harms of drug prohibition, militarization of foreign policy, money laundering, the human rights of migrants -- and what we can do about them. A young leader and alumna of FOR's Colombia project, Janice Gallagher, is part of the core organizing team in Mexico. Please join us in this critical effort.
There are at least three ways you can participate in this historic binational journey. If you live in or near any of the caravan city stops, please get involved in organizing events and hospitality for the caravañeros. The cities are: San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, El Paso, Laredo, Brownsville, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Jackson, Montgomery, Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, New York, Baltimore and Washington. Contact us to get involved.
You can also participate on the Caravan yourself - for just a day or for the entire journey. Costs for participants will be $45/day, covering a seat on the bus, simple housing and most meals, or $1,000 for the whole month. If you are interested, please write me.
Finally, we need your financial support to sponsor those who will travel on the Caravan, including FOR activists and Mexican movement leaders. You can sponsor a caravañero for a day ($45), or two weeks ($500), or with whatever you can give. Please help enable Mexican visitors and FOR to undertake this project.
with hope and solidarity,
