Dear Friends,
Last week we wrote you about Anas Shughri, a Syrian student who has been held in arbitrary detention for more than a year.
To date, more than 200 people have written the Syrian government to ask for Anas's release -- but we need your name, Friends.
Send a message to Syria now and call for Anas's immediate release.
Anas's university town of Banyas was one of the first places nonviolent opposition to the Syrian regime spread -- thanks in large part to his efforts to promote nonviolence.
Anas is being held without contact with his family and friends. We are particularly concerned that Anas may have been subject to torture and other ill-treatment because of his charismatic role in the Banyas protests.
Add your name to our message to Syrian leaders.
The Syrian regime claims Anas is a "terrorist" who leads "armed gangs." Yet Anas is known in particular for his commitment to peaceful protest against oppression.
Anas stood up for nonviolence. Join us in standing up for him.
In solidarity,
Leila, Mohja, Maureen, Ali, Linda, Mark, and Ethan, on behalf of FOR's Task Force on the Middle East |
