Afghan Youth Peace Volunteers

Dear Friends,

Two million Afghans have died due to war.

Two million. Out of a population of 35 million people, two million have died.

For the past four decades Afghanistan has been wracked by constant war. The United States has played a key role: providing covert assistance to a sustained conflict for 30 years, and then in October 2001 formally engaging in what is now considered our nation's "longest war."

Peace-loving Afghans, including the youth pictured above, are asking you to stand up for peace in their homeland by calling on the United Nations to broker a ceasefire.

Join the Fellowship of Reconciliation and add your name to the petition supporting Afghan Peace Volunteers.

Remembering the two million lives lost to war, our Afghan friends have asked FOR to help identify 2 Million Friends to sign this petition by International Human Rights Day -- December 10, 2012. We can do it, with your help.

Add your name to the petition now.

2 million friends for peace in Afghanistan

This campaign is being led by the Afghan Peace Volunteers based in Kabul, whose mentor, Dr. Hakim, is the recipient of FOR's 2012 Pfeffer International Peace Award and being supported by the Global Days of Listening, an FOR national chapter.

We invite you to join the conversation on September 21, when Dr. Hakim and members of the Afghan Peace Volunteers will speak with other peace-loving people around the world, thanks to the public conversation organized by the Global Days of Listening project.

Today, as we prepare for the International Day of Peace, please add your support for a ceasefire in Afghanistan.

In peace,

Mark C. Johnson, Ph.D.
