Join us for great music, food, conversation and community!

This year's celebration is in tribute to a beloved young man and musician, Jesse Yanko. Jesse, 16, died of cancer on November 28. As the bass player for Regret the Hour, a youth driven alternative-rock band that has played at several FOR fundraisers, Jesse performed at last year's Solstice gathering. Regret the Hour will perform again in Jesse's honor.

In hope of offering light in a time of supreme darkness, the candles lit in the windows and throughout Shadowcliff mansion are in memory of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy that occurred on December 14.

Peace awards presentation

Another highlight of the day will be the presentation of awards to two local peace workers.

Alan Levin, the Nyack Area Peace Prize winner, is a psychotherapist, meditation teacher, and activist who lives and works for peace and nonviolent justice in Rockland County. One of the founding members of the Hudson Valley FOR, Levin is a consistent presence and often the organizer of local actions and gatherings for a cause.

Jim Murphy, the recipient of FOR's Martin Luther King, Jr. Award, is a Vietnam veteran and educator who co-founded the Hudson Valley Chapter of Veterans For Peace with Dayl Wise. Jim is currently the coordinator of Veterans' Fellowship of Reconciliation and develops counter-recruitment programs for high schools and advocacy for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
