Fellowship of Reconciliation

Dear Friends,

Amid the recent mass shootings and a national effort to limit the presence of guns in our communities, Arkansas State Representative Charlie Collins and others are sponsoring a bill to allow the concealed carrying of guns for licensed faculty and staff on all public college and university campuses in Arkansas. If the bill is successful, Representative Collins has indicated that a similar bill will follow that would allow licensed students the same privilege. You can read the current version of the bill here.

The bill will go to committee next week, on February 12.

Join FOR Member Sidney Burris in an effort to stop this legislation!

He has started an online petition against the bill that will go directly to the governor, the House, and the Senate.

There are 20 members of the Education Committee who will determine the fate of this bill in the legislature. If the bill receives fewer than 11 votes, it will fail. Please express your concern particularly to Representatives Carnine, Clemmer, Hopper, and Hobbs.

We ask that you urgently:

  1. sign and share the petition
  2. publicize the names and emails of the committee members who will determine the fate of this bill, and
  3. join Sidney Burris in Fayetteville this Friday, Feb. 8 to express your opposition to the bill to Representative Collins and others at a legislative forum at 4 p.m. at the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce.

Thanks for taking action to prevent gun proliferation on our university campuses and in our communities!
