Fellowship of Reconciliation

Dear Friends,

The Fellowship of Reconciliation invites you to two events in Washington this week. The first is a Congressional-sponsored briefing on Capitol Hill:

Obama in Latin America: The U.S. Response to the Region’s Leftward Shift

Featuring

Honorary Co-host: Representative Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ)

Thursday, May 30, 2013
10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

In the past decade and a half, Latin America and especially South America have experienced unprecedented political change. This briefing will look at how the U.S. administration has responded to the region’s shifting political dynamics and offer recommendations for improving U.S. relations with the rest of the hemisphere. The panelists, in Washington to participate in the 2013 Latin American Studies Association International Congress, will discuss the following issues:

  • U.S. relationships with the new left-leaning governments in the region
  • The Impact of U.S. Regional Security and Counternarcotics Policy
  • Regional institutional changes resulting from the collective efforts of the hemisphere’s new governments
  • Major areas of difference between various Latin American governments and Washington

To attend, please RSVP here.

Also, the Latin American Studies Association is holding its 31st International Congress, "Towards a New Social Contract?",  in Washington this week. On Friday, FOR will cosponsor a panel titled "U.S. Drug Policy Towards Central America: A Reprise on U.S. Military Intervention?"
