Fellowship of Reconciliation

Dear Friends,

The International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) and the U.S. Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR-USA) are excited to officially announce a new level of partnership and cooperation in the form of this year's Fellowship School program, to be hosted at FOR-USA’s Nyack, N.Y. headquarters from October 19 to December 21.

Last year IFOR launched its first Fellowship School, an annual training and internship program for young adults looking to become leaders within the global nonviolence movement. The initial program was located at IFOR's International Secretariat in Alkmaar, The Netherlands, and brought three Fellows together from Africa, Europe, and North America to gain experience in the many facets of international and multifaith nonviolence work.

Make a donation now to ensure the success of this year’s Fellowship School.

This year, extraordinary young leaders from four different continents will be offered the opportunity to participate in FOR’s beloved community while living and working at Shadowcliff as IFOR Fellows. Fellows will serve as IFOR interns and learn from experienced nonviolence activists within the IFOR/FOR network. Invited trainers include Jamila Raqib of the Albert Einstein Institute, renowned nonviolence theoretician and tactician Rev. James Lawson, Dr. Liliane Kshensky Baxter of the Weinberg Center for Holocaust Education, Kazu Haga of the Kingian Nonviolence Network, Rev. Patricia Ackerman of the School for Civic & Global Leadership at CCNY, Lee McKenna of Partera, members of the FOR-USA and IFOR staffs, and other special guests.

Fellows will be empowered to take leadership roles in the global nonviolence movement, gaining experience through the Fellowship School’s internship, training, mentorship, and individual project development components. Following the program’s close on December 21, Fellows will have approximately 7 months to implement and evaluate their individual projects. In August 2014, Fellows will have the opportunity to attend IFOR’s centennial celebration in Konstanz, Germany to present their projects.

Applications to the Fellowship School have been incredibly strong. The 2013 Fellows have been selected from 225 applicants. This fall you will be introduced to these four young adults and learn more details about the program. Reply to this email or contact IFOR Program Coordinator Gretchen Honnold or visit the IFOR web site for additional information regarding the 2013 Fellowship School.

Each of the Fellows will have their own bedroom and work space at our “Shadowcliff” headquarters, and Shadowcliff common spaces will be used for meetings, trainings, and collaborations. IFOR and FOR-USA staff will be onsite to assist the Fellows.

Will you help with a donation for this worthwhile and needed program?

A gift to FOR-USA of $50 will ensure a Fellow’s one-night stay; a gift of $500 will support a Fellow’s 10-day attendance; a gift of $1000 will help defray the expenses of one of the amazing nonviolence trainers who will work with them.

We estimate FOR-USA costs to be over $5000 per Fellow. IFOR costs are above and beyond this amount.

Your gift will be a significant investment in furthering the work of nonviolent change toward freedom and peace, extending the impact of the FOR family far into the next century.

All over the world, young adults are hungry to learn more about nonviolence as a path to peace, to be mentored by experienced activists, and to engage in projects that further social change.

Building on our history of almost a century of organizing for nonviolent social change, IFOR and FOR-USA are privileged to partner with a new generation of change agents through the 2013 Fellowship School.

Please join us in this effort and donate now.

With deep gratitude for your support and faith,
