Fellowship of Reconciliation

Friends,

Last week we told you that Ricardo Esquivia, the Colombian Mennonite peace leader who received FOR's Pfeffer International Peace Award in 2008, has recently received death threats. The immediate global attention to his case has provided him a measure of temporary safety, for which he is grateful. We will be updating our supporters on his case soon.

Today, we want to alert you of the news just received that Ricardo will be in Washington this coming Monday, Sept. 30, to visit with human rights organizations and Congressional staff. At 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist building on Capitol Hill, he will join partners and friends to join him for a one-hour conversation. You are invited to attend.

Ricardo EsquiviaRicardo Esquivia has worked for over 40 years for peace, justice, and community development in Colombia and was the founder of Justapaz, the Christian Center for Justice, Peace and Nonviolent Action. Ricardo currently serves as director of Sembrandopaz (Association for the Sowing of Seeds of Peace). Ricardo will lift up his work in the Montes de María and Caribbean regions of Colombia and also offer observation on the peace process currently being negotiated between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

RSVP to Rev. Michael Neuroth of the United Church of Christ by e-mail if you plan to attend.
