Fellowship of Reconciliation

Friends,

Each year, the Fellowship of Reconciliation awards three peace prizes -- international, national, and local -- to individuals or organizations whose commitment to peace, justice, and reconciliation is recognized as extraordinary.

Three decades ago, in 1984, FOR's Martin Luther King Jr. Award recipients were Pete and Toshi Seeger, whose memories we now mourn. (Photo above from Washington Square Park in 2005, courtesy of Len Tsou.) An article in Fellowship magazine about the January 1984 event honoring Pete and Toshi reports, "When the award was presented to the Seegers, Toshi said she was taking the opportunity to speak publicly for the first time. She was accepting the award on behalf of all the women who do the 'behind-the-scenes work, who stay at home with a baby in one hand while stirring the soup with the other hand. I haven't dropped a baby in the soup pot yet, but I've melted a lot of telephone cords!'"

Grandmother Agnes and IFOR FellowsOur inspiring awardees in 2013 were the International Council of Indigenous Grandmothers (Grandmother Agnes, in photo at right, with FOR-USA's Shauen Pearce and three International FOR Fellows), Dr. Dorothy Cotton and Dr. Vincent Harding, and Steve & Emilia White.

We need your help to find our 2014 awardees. Please nominate your favorite individual or organization working for peace by Friday, April 11.
