Fellowship of Reconciliation

Friends,

Tomorrow here in Boston, I'll be speaking at two events about my dramatic experiences during the past month in Ferguson, Missouri. Please join me.

My congregation, First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain, will host both programs.

Rev. Sekou (left) in FergusonAt 11:00 AM will will hold "The Crucifixion of Mike Brown: A Service of Lament and Liberation," a service to lament the ongoing police brutality in our nation and serve as call to the faith community to stand in solidarity with victimized families. We will include music and spoken word, and I will preach.

At 7:00 PM we will host "Beyond Ferguson: A Boston Call to Action," a community mobilization to recognize how the tragic killing of Mike Brown in Ferguson also happens right here at home. On August 21, 2012, Burrell Ramsey was shot and killed by a Boston Police officer in what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop. Members of Burrell Ramsey’s family will be present and invited guest organizations include Black Life Matters Boston, Hands Up United, and Youth Against Mass Incarceration.

Friends, I am exhausted from spending two weeks on the frontlines of the protests in Ferguson, but adamant of the urgency of our common struggle for justice, resistance, and ultimately reconciliation. I hope you will join me in these community gatherings and to plan for our long road ahead.

In peace and solidarity,

Rev. Osagyefo Uhuru Sekou
